Genealogy

Genealogy research at the HRHS Library.

  • Over 2,200 books are in the library, about 30% of these are "Family History" books that include genealogies.
  • An obituary file with clippings from local newspapers.
  • Surname files that include various correspondence and other documents for each surname.
  • Cemetery records for virtually every cemetery in Rockingham County.
  • Church records.
  • And much more; birth certificates, undertakers records, property tax records, etc.
  •

Many of these sources have been entered into the Family Search Database that is availble in the library. This database contains about 500,000 records. This database is available on line; it lists names, events (marriage, death, etc.) and where the source of information exists in the HRHS library.
