Shenandoah District. Dear brethren: From the field of toil and rejoicing, I come to present my
annual report for the year just closed. Our common Heavenly Father has been gracious to me and mine,
bestowing all temporal comforts, and granting his presence and help in the discharge of incumbent
duties. Eleven circuits, one mission, and one mission station comprise the district and afford abundant
opportunity for work. From the visits of death we have not been exempt. In March G. W. Howe and in
August Henry Jones passed triumphantly away. Owing to ill health, J. W. Howe resigned Staunton
Mission Station early in the year; J. E. Hott supplied the vacancy and has made a vigorous effort to
promote our cause and reduce the debt on property. Three houses of worship have been completed and
dedicated during the year: New Salem, on Singers Glen; Bethel, on Front Royal; and Zion, on Augusta
Freedman’s Mission. One more is in course of erection at Verona, and another is in prospect at
Broadway. Both are greatly needed. Salary, $447.61. District fund, $13.80. Viewing the beautiful but
frail clockwork of human constitutions and confessions of faith the ministers differ, as do the laymen,
widely and honestly, but the unity of religious sentiment and feeling is seldom more manifest than now.
The burnished gold of Christian character reflects the smile of sympathy and generosity. We have not
fixed our seal to the deliverances of hasty judgment and will never drink the intoxicant of desperation.
Respectfully submitted, C. P. Dyche, P.E.

Winchester District. Dear brethren: The circle of another conference year has been made,
which has brought us together to report the result of our work. Accordingly, I submit my report of
Winchester District, which is composed of 13 fields of labor, supplied with as many itinerant ministers,
who preach the gospel at nearly 100 regular appointments, and who, in the main, have been faithful and
earnest in all of their work. A deeper consecration might render some of them still more efficient and
enable them to bring a better report from their respective fields. There have been no very extensive
revivals on the district this year, yet reports will show quite an increase in church membership.

In church building there has been some permanent advancement. An excellent house of worship
has been completed and dedicated at Great Cacapon, on Berkeley Springs circuit; also one in course of
erection on Frederick circuit, and will be ready for dedication in the early spring. Preparations are being
made to build another one on the same work next summer. Some steps have been taken toward building
a church on Berkeley circuit, also one on North Fork circuit. A debt of long standing on the parsonage
