Shenandoah District. Giving thanks to God for His goodness and mercy, which has been
around me like a glory all the year, I submit this report of Shenandoah District. There are 14 fields of
labor—11 Circuits, 1 Mission, and 2 Mission Stations; by these the assignments made by the last Annual
Conference were duly and mutually respected. Most of the preachers worked hard and made permanent
progress as their reports will show. Fifty-five Quarterly Meetings were held during the year, most of
which were conducted in person. The Sunday school interests were carefully considered, and our
literature appreciated and used. Church houses have been repaired on Edinburg, Rockbridge, Dayton,
and elsewhere. The Baptist interest in the meeting house at Singers Glen has been purchased and the
house repaired; also a new house of worship at Cherry Grove on this circuit is in progress.

A beautiful meeting house was dedicated at Mountain Valley on Lacey Springs Circuit. But
little attention has been paid to our mission debt. Few, if any, of the pastors have received pay
commensurate with their toil, yet our people, in the main, lack the ability and not the will. The subject
of Lay Delegation was considered by the quarterly conferences as directed at our last session, and a
majority opposed a change in the matter. Good work has been done in Staunton. A society well
organized is the year’s result, but a meeting house is indispensable to its life and growth. I visited Luray
and found it abundantly supplied with the Gospel that saves, and think a mission there would be
expensive and a failure. Time employed, 12 months. Sermons preached, 177; salary $457.25; and
district fund, $13.80. With feelings of gratitude to the preachers and people for their sympathy and help,
and praying the blessings of God upon the work performed, this report is respectfully submitted. C. P.
Dyche, P.E.
