Superintendent’s Report (pp. 8-16). To the Bishop, ministers, and laymen of the Virginia
Conference, “Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” My dear
brethren: In presenting to you this my first report as Superintendent, I do so with a profound sense of
gratitude to our Heavenly Father, who has preserved our lives during the year, who has kept us amidst
the temptations and conflicts, who has given to his servants success in the work, and who has manifested
his power in saving souls, thereby glorifying himself through his Son Jesus Christ. To be permitted to
labor in the Church of Christ today is a great privilege, to have a part in the advanced movements, in
seeking to evangelize the world, should inspire all to greater endeavor on the part of all of God’s
noblemen. Never, in the history of the Church, has there been such a federation of forces as today in
seeking to fulfill the divine commission, and I am glad to say that our church is in the forefront in the
mighty movements for the conquest of the world. Are we succeeding? “It took one 100 years to
evangelize the first 1,000,000 heathen people. The second million was evangelized in 12 years, and at
the present rate, 1,000,000 are being saved in 6 years.” Our church has accepted five millions to lead to
Christ. What a splendid opportunity to do a great work! In this splendid advance movement the
Virginia Conference will accept her share and aid the Church in accomplishing this noble work. Our
people are looking onward and upward to higher attainments and a higher degree of proficiency. The
year has been full of anxieties and cares. I have prayed and labored to advance all of the interests of the
Conference, and the reports will show that progress has been made and that the Conference has become
stronger spiritually and materially.

Ministerial Sympathy and Support. I want to express my thanks to the brethren and laity for their
kindness and hearty cooperation. I have tried to be kind and yet firm, and the brethren have shown me
marked consideration for which I am grateful. While I deeply regret that I was not able to do more, yet
my time and energy have been given to the work. In a large measure I want to express my approval of
the Ministry who have toiled in the Conference this year. These are truly God’s noblemen, and the
Master has been pleased to bless them materially and spiritually.
