Quarterlies in person save four, that were filled by proxy. I also gave six extra weeks’ work to the
district. All of the quarterly conferences voted against lay representation save two, the vote of which
was a tie. I did not give the casting vote.
The winter has been severe, and if other districts were hindered, South Branch more. The fields
of labor are large and difficult to travel, the country in many sections sparsely settled, some of the
brethren have had to travel on foot, some have been frozen, meetings since early in December have been
nearly impossible, since when men never worked harder to accomplish but little. Where they have not
met with the desired success they deserve sympathy rather than censure. They have not received pay
commensurate with their toil and sacrifice. Everlasting thanks to Him who has said, “That which is
right will I give thee.” I never loved brethren more than these, and I only wish could have shared more
of their toil with them. Quarterlies, 35; fields of labor, 10. Salary, $270.10; presents, $14. Time,
12 months. Respectfully submitted, J. E. Hott, P.E.
