Report of the Superintendent (pp. 8-15). To the Presiding Bishop, Ministers, and Lay
Delegates in Annual Conference assembled: Dear brethren: With a heart full of gratitude to our loving
Heavenly Father, for his abundant mercies and rich blessings upon you and your labors, and with
abounding joy, I present this my fifth report, my second as the Superintendent of the entire conference
district. The year has been one of arduous toil, helpful communion with the Father, and blessed
fellowships.
Sickness and Death. One member of the Conference died during the year. Rev. J. D. Scott,
M.D. He finished his work on earth, December 28, 1907, and went triumphantly to his home above.
Many other of the brethren have been greatly hindered in their work by either being sick themselves or
having had sickness in their families. On June 6, 1907, Helen Virginia Brunk, daughter of Brother and
Sister Brunk, went home to heaven, and then on January 11, 1908, Sister Clifford, beloved and faithful
wife of T. K. Clifford, was called home. These have the sympathies and prayers of the Church. George
P. Hott was compelled to resign his charge on account of severe and protracted illness, and is not now
able for pastoral work. Let earnest prayers continue to be offered for his early and complete recovery.
Conference District. The Conference is composed of 4 stations, 4 half-stations and 30 circuits.
On April 29, 1907, F. B. Chubb was appointed to Jones Spring circuit and has served it faithfully.
George A. McGuire was appointed to Elk Garden circuit, May 16, 1907; served the work with
acceptability. On September 14, 1907, George P. Hott resigned Berkeley Springs circuit on account of
failing health; on the same day. A. P. Sallaz was appointed to fill out the conference year, and he has
done good work. E. A. Stanton on November 9, 1907, resigned Frederick circuit to accept work in the
Pennsylvania Conference. No suitable supply could be made, and so the work was left without regular
ministerial services. On November 30, 1907, S. K. Wine resigned Winchester, and on the same date Dr.
A. P. Funkhouser was appointed to the vacancy, and he has served the work efficiently.
Dedications and Reopenings. The new, beautiful, and commodious church in Berkeley Springs
[Station], W.Va., was dedicated to the worship of God, by Bishop J. S. Mills, D.D., on Sunday, June 30,
1907; George P. Hott, pastor. This marked a new epoch for our church in the town and county. The
