Virginia Conference District. To the Bishop, Ministers, and Laity of the Virginia Annual
Conference, I beg to submit this my annual report: Through the abundant mercies of our Heavenly
Father, we are permitted to assemble once more in annual session. The year just closed has been one of
many blessings, joys and victories; it has also been a year of sorrow and some disappointment. On July
30th, Bro. W. R. Berry was called home, and then on August 25th, Bro. T. J. Feaster answered to the
same call and went to his everlasting reward. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his
saints.” We shall see them again.
The Conference. The Conference is composed of 37 charges, all of which were supplied at the
last session of Conference. All the pastors went to the charges to which they were assigned, except Bro.
W. D. Good, who resigned Shenandoah City circuit on April 23rd, but was reappointed to the same place
on June 9th. Bro. W. Eugene Smith left Bayard circuit July 2nd, and on August 16th, Bro. L. E. Brill was
appointed to take the charge. Bro. J. Francis Smith resigned Cumberland Mission station on July 2nd
and Rev. S. H. Snell was secured to serve the charge for 3 months. For the next 3 months, neighboring
pastors preached occasionally. On January 6th, Rev. W. D. Mitchell was appointed and did most
excellent work.
Dedication. The new and commodious church at Fountain on New Creek circuit, C. P. Dyche,
pastor, was dedicated on May 6th, by Rev. George P. Hott, assisted by S. R. Ludwig, E. E. Neff, and the
writer. The total cost was $1,495. The J. D. Donovan Memorial church at Singers Glen, Va., was
dedicated, May 27th. The sermon was preached by Rev. E. U. Hoenshel, D.D., who was assisted in the
service by Revs. A. S. Hammack, J. H. Brunk, the pastor, and myself. This church is modern in every
way, and one of the best in the Conference. The entire cost was $5,650, of which $2,560 was secured on
the day of dedication. A new church was built on North Fork, W.Va., Franklin circuit, and was
dedicated by the writer assisted by the pastor, Rev. J. W. Stearn. This is a frame church, well designed,
and it will be a means of blessing to the people of that community.
