JOHAN FRIEDRICH ERMENTRAUDT

(2)CHILDREN: none.
Emanuel was bapt. at Pk. Mtn. Ch., 9 Aug 1801, and his sponsors were Christian Leucke and wife Elizabeth Armentrout.2

The bapt. rec. spells the name Immanuel. He was a farmer all of his life and owned a farm on the Shenandoah River near the
mouth of Cub Run. He was mar. twice. The 1st mar. was in 1825 to Maria Anna Argabright3 who was the mother of his 9
children. She died in 1856, and burial was in the Luth. Cem. at McGaheysville, Va.4 The 2nd mar. was in 1857 to Sarah
Sprankle Almond, a widow.5 There were no children to this mar. Emanuel's farm was valued at $2,200 in 1850. The rec.
indicates that his wife and 9 children were living on the farm at that time.6 He must have been quite successful as the 1860
cen. rec. value his farm at $6,800 and in addition he owned per. prop. valued at $1,771.7 The 1870 value of his farm in the
cen. rec. was $5,775 and his per. prop. was $737. This undoubtedly reflects the effects of the Civil War on the area.a At this
time there also lived with him a gr. son, Stephen Oreback, son of his deceased oldest dau. Julia Ann. There was another Ore-
back boy, Luther, 1 year old, but he could not have been a son of Julia Ann, as her husband died while in service in the Confed-
erate Army during the Civil War. In 1880 Emanuel is listed in the cen. rec. with his 2nd wife and 2 of his unmar. daus. who
were still living at home.9 Emanuel died in 1890 and his 2nd wife, Sarah, died a year later in 1891 of "La Grippe."1 Both
were buried in Mt. Olivet Cem., McGaheysville, Va.10
