ARMENTROUT FAMILY HISTORY
CHILDREN: 1. Fannie J (1879-1972). 2. George Edgar (1881- ).
Emma Elizabeth was born in 1850 and was bapt. at Pk. Mtn. Ch., 10 May 1851. Her parents, Jeremiah and Sarah Jane
Armentrout; were her sponsors. 1 She appears as a girl of 8 in the 1860 cen. rec.2 and 17 years of age in that for 1870.3 She
and Christian S Earman were mar. by Rev J Condor in 18764 and they were the parents of 2 children. Christian was a farmer
and lived on a farm in the Penn Laird area of Rock. Co. The 1880 cen. rec. list him as a farmer with a wife Emma and a baby
girl. 5 The family were members of the Luth. Ch. Emma died in 1929 at the age of 78 and her husband, Christian, died in
1935 at the age of 88. Both were buried in the Mt. Olivet Cem., McGaheysville, Va.6 nfd

Fannie was born on the family farm near Penn Laird, Va., in 1879. She remained at home with her parents and never mar.
She was appointed Post Mistress for the Penn Laird Post Office and remained in the position for 25 years. In later life she
lived in Harrisonburg, Va., where she owned her own home and some rental prop. Miss Earman was a member of the Muhlen-
berg Luth. Ch. She died in January of 1972 at the Va. Mennonite Home, where she had been a patient since July of 1970.
She was well past her 92nd birthday at the time of her death. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cem., McGaheysville, Va. nfd

G Edgar attended the Penn Laird, Va., public school and grad. from a Va. Academy. He also attended business col. and
took correspondence courses in engineering in Pittsburg, Penna. In 1900 he was employed by the Penna. Railroad where he
remained for 2 years and then transferred to the Pressed Steel Car Co. where he remained for another 2 years. His next job
was as a Junior Engineer in 1904 in Wyoming with the U S Reclamation Service and later he was a construction foreman on
the Shoshone Dam. He moved to the west coast and in 1907 was engaged as a construction supt. in Portland, Ore., working
in general construction.
In late 1908 G Edward and Louise Schoff were mar. in Philadelphia, Penna., and 3 children were born to this union. Louise
was a Bryn Mawr grad. in the class of 1902. She was a school teacher and held a Teachers Life Cert. in the State of Colo. She
was a member of the Swedenborgian Ch. in Philadelphia and a member of the National Congress of Mothers. Louise was an
enthusiastic out-of-doors person and this was completely expressed in her book "Adventures of the Great Outdoors." She
died in Colorado Springs in 1928 from pneumonia.
The family moved back to the east in 1914 where G Edgar was employed in Philadelphia as a construction supt. on general
contracting. He and the family while on vacation in 1916 in Colorado were so impressed with the country that they decided
to stay. They bought a ranch near Colorado Springs and G Edward went to work for the N. Y. Life Ins. Co. as an agent. He
continued in this work until 1940 when he retired, acquiring the status of a Senior Agent. His time was spent after retirement
in traveling and occasional ins. business. During WW I he volunteered and spent 5 months in Officers Training School at Camp
Hancock, Augusta, Ga. He owned his own home in Colorado Springs; was a member of the AL and the Unit. Ch. He died in
1968 and his ashes were buried in Mt. Olivet Cem. at McGaheysville.
He was mar. again to Eleanor S Davis in 1930. She was born in Greenfield, Mass., in 1885. Eleanor grad. from Boston Nor-
mal School of Gymnastics and later attended Wellesley for a year. She also attended the Univ. of Calif. at Berkeley, Calif., and
the Univ. of Wis. at Madison. Currently (1977) living in Colorado Springs, Colo.
