Superintendent’s Report (pp. 10-21). To the Bishop, ministers and laymen of the Virginia
Conference, greeting. My dear brethren in the vineyard of the Lord assembled in this 112th Session of
the Virginia Annual Conference: It is with pleasure that I present to you this my second annual report as
Superintendent, and in so doing I feel to return thanks to our Heavenly Father, who has preserved our
lives and led us amidst the varied scenes and activities of the year. How our hearts have been made to
rejoice as we have been permitted to labor and to see the results of our labors in the growth and
prosperity of our church! These are truly great days in the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom. Not since
the days of the Apostles has the Church of Jesus Christ manifested such a spirit of conquest. I rejoice
with you that in this conquest the Virginia Conference is pushing to the front, and I feel that when the
reports are submitted they will show a splendid increase in all departments of work.

Sickness and Death. During the year, Brother J. W. Brill was somewhat hindered in his work by
sickness in his family. Sister Sampsell, the wife of Brother W. H. Sampsell, who has been quite ill for
some months past, is slowly recovering. Brother Chubb and family have been sorely afflicted, but have
all recovered. At this writing, Sister Racey, the wife of Brother L. A. Racey, is quite sick. May this
Conference pray for her recovery. During the year, one of our members has been removed by the hand
of death. Rev. J. W. Walters, after years of failing health, passed away at his home near Luray, Va.
Thus one by one we fall to enter into the great life beyond. Therefore in humble recognition of His
divine sovereignty we bow our heads and say, “Thy will be done.”

Resignations and Supplies. Soon after Conference Bro. B. F. Dotson resigned Bayard charge.

This charge was not supplied until August, when Bro. A. B. Mann was assigned to the work. On
November 1st Bro. G. S. Hanleiter resigned Dayton circuit and Dayton station. Dr. A. P. Funkhouser
was appointed to take charge of these works December 1st. Bro. B. N. Sypolt resigned Shenandoah
November 1st, and Bro. B. F. Dotson was assigned to the work.

Recommended to Conference. The following brethren were recommended to the Annual
Conference for license to preach: A. B. Mann, of Cumberland Station; I. Summers, of Hardy Charge;
George McGuire, of West Frederick; and L. A. Messick, of Dayton Circuit. Further, F. D. Vansickle, of
