Shenandoah District. To the Bishop, Ministers, and Laity of the Virginia Annual Conference,
Greeting: Through the mercies of our Heavenly Father I am permitted to submit to you this my fourth
annual report. This has indeed been a pleasant year in the Master’s work. The brethren were kindly
received, and peace prevailed in the main throughout the year.

The District. The district consists of 19 charges. I have tried to be helpful to the Ministry and
Laity in every way possible, and in return the Ministry and Laity have shown me a marked degree of
kindness, for which I am grateful. Resignations and Supplies. Rev. C. H. Hutzler, of the Allegheny
Conference, was appointed to Harrisonburg immediately after Conference and served the charge
acceptably until the last Sabbath in February, when he was, by request, excused from further service to
accept a charge in his own conference. Rev. C. E. Martin, of the Evangelical Church, who was assigned
to Shenandoah circuit, resigned in June; and Bro. A. L. Maiden was assigned to the charge. Albemarle
circuit was left to be supplied, and Bro. J. L Argenbright was appointed to this charge. License Granted.
The following brethren were granted quarterly conference license to preach: Bros. A. L. Maiden, N. H.
McAllister, K. H. Moyers, and J. W. Marston. Sickness and Deaths. Health has prevailed to a large
degree with all the brethren and their families, except Bros. Crowell, Fadeley, and Boyd. The former
lost his dear companion who after a long and patient affliction quietly fell asleep in Jesus, whom she had
served since early in life. Bro. Fadeley’s son has been in bad health during the year, and his son-in-law
was called from time to reward. Bro. Boyd’s wife has been sick for the past 5 months, but is now
beginning to improve. These brethren have our prayers and sympathy.

Salaries. There was some increase in salaries over last year, and the salary as assessed will
largely be paid in full, and yet our salaries are too low; but by continuous efforts we will reach the
standard desired. Conference Assessments. A vigorous effort has been made to have all our conference
assessments full and, from the reports received, I feel encouraged. Several may fall short, for reasons I
need not mention. But we are working on the upgrade, and I feel to congratulate the brethren and laity
for the effort made with the hope that next year we may see a still larger increase.
