Shenandoah District. Dear brethren: With gratitude to our Heavenly Father for his protection,
I submit this my second annual report. The year has been one of service and affliction. For 11 weeks, I
was only able to hold four quarterly conferences; the others were held by proxy, and I here express my
thanks to the brethren for their kindness. Affliction has come to some of our pastors, which has
hindered in the work to some extent—the most serious being that of Bro. L. A. Racey and family and
Sister Crowell, wife of Bro. C. H. Crowell; but despite these conditions, the reports in the main will
show a commendable degree of prosperity.
The District. The district is composed of 21 charges, all of which I served as best I could save
two, viz.: Christiansburg and Basic City Missions. Bro. A. G. Wells was assigned to the first named.
This being entirely a new field, and the brother being unable to secure a place in which to worship
without a missionary appropriation, which could not be given; I did not go to the field. The other, Basic
City mission, is composed of two appointments to which Bro. J. L. Argenbright was appointed; he has
served one appointment regularly. I had arranged upon several occasions to visit this field but on
account of sickness and a misunderstanding I did not visit the field. I regard the district in good
condition, as I think the reports will show.
Death. One of our number dropped from the ranks Bro. J. W. Howe, who for so many years was
a true and faithful member of the Virginia Conference, will meet with us no more. May the Lord help us
to be as true and noble as he, and leave behind us as worthy record as did he. Resignations and
Supplies. Dayton circuit was left to be supplied, to which Bros. E. O. Hoenshel and A. N. Horn were
appointed. In October Bro. Horn resigned his part of the work to take work in his own conference,
Pennsylvania. This vacancy was, filled by Bro. T. C. Harper who resigned Broadway circuit, to which
Bro. H. R. Geil was appointed. Bro. J. F. Snyder resigned Roanoke First Church, to which Bro. S. T.
Boyd was appointed in connection with Roanoke Second Church. Bro. K. Brill resigned Albemarle
circuit soon after Conference, which field was left unsupplied. The charge was not neglected, Bros.
C. H. Crowell, E. A. Stanton, and myself having visited the charge. Licentiates. Quarterly Conference
