Stained Glass Windows in the Churches of Harrisonburg

Muhlenberg Lutheran Church
Luther Window

On April 1851, Martin Luther came to expound his religious views at the Diet of Worms before an
assembly of German princes, the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V and the papal representative, Cardinal
Alexander. Luther was asked to recant his heretical views by refused, saying, “Here I stand. I cannot do
otherwise. God help me. Amen.” This event marked Luther’s complete break with the Catholic Church
and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. A torch is the symbol at the top of the window.

Given to the Glory of God by the family of D. A. and Mattie Lucas; Kathleen and Altaon Figgatt; Margaret and Andrew
Carroll; and Clarrice and Charles Hammond.
