St. John on the Island of Patmos
Mary appears to St. John with a crown of twelve stars as recorded in Revelation 12:1. As part of the
elaborate architectural setting of the scene, eagles are used – the symbol of St. John. The top pane
shows a cup and snake: ordered to drink a cup of poisoned wine, John took the cup and poison departed
in the form of a snake.
