III. U.B./EUB REPORTS REGARDING SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY
A. SOURCES OF INFORMATION
This material is excerpted from Virginia Conference Minutes, 1875-1969, the U.B. Yearbooks,
1895-1946, and the EUB Yearbooks, 1946-1960 and 1962-1968. Details of Conference Minutes are
provided in Vol. 7 (for the U.B. period, 1875-1946) and Vol. 8 (for the EUB period, 1947-1969). For
ease in scanning the material below, emphases (underlining) has been added by the Editor for mention
of Shenandoah.

Report of the Committee on Education (pp. 8-9). Whereas, We as a Conference feel the
necessity and importance of a sanctified education, and inasmuch as this cannot be secured without the
establishment of institutions of learning; therefore: Resolved, (1) That we are pleased to see and hear of
the persevering efforts of the U.B. Church and her agents to build up colleges among us. (2) That we
are gratified to learn of the success of the endowment and other agents of Union Biblical Seminary and
Lebanon Valley College, and that we not only welcome them into our bounds but will assist them all we
can in their work. (3) That we will heartily cooperate with the eastern conferences in building up a
school in the East, second to none in the church, at which we may educate our children. (4) That we
retain the money raised in our own Conference for the endowment of Lebanon Valley College, and that
the interest accruing thereon be paid annually on the 1st of April, to said college, so long as we continue
our cooperation. (5) That we appoint a treasurer to hold the bonds and money thus given, and that he be
authorized to invest all money coming into his hands in such securities as may be safe, collect the
interest thereon, and pay it to the proper authorities of Lebanon Valley College, and that he be required
to make an annual report to the Conference of all money received and how invested. (6) That we
instruct our Trustees to Lebanon Valley College to encourage the adoption of a rule in said college,
admitting all young men studying for the ministry, who come recommended by a cooperating
conference, tuition free. (7) That we are pleased with the efforts and success of Brother Keedy, our
endowment agent, and recommend he be continued agent for this Conference.
