Stained Glass Windows in the Churches of Harrisonburg

First Presbyterian Church
New Jerusalem

The south wall has this large five paneled window with the glass set in perpendicular style tracery. The
center image of this window is the domed temple of the eternal city as described by John in Revelation
21. The two flanking scenes refer to the Passion of Christ: to the right are olive trees and a flight of steps
indication the Garden of Gethsemane and to the left are palm trees signifying Christ’s arrival in
Jerusalem. Medallions have wheat and grapes, symbols of the Last Supper, and roses and pomegranate,
symbolizing the promise of new life and the resurrection of Christ. The fleur-de-lis is used throughout this
window.

In Memoriam: Mabel Grymes Heneberger (1861 – 1883).
