Stained Glass Windows in the Churches of Harrisonburg
First Presbyterian Church
17 North Court Square.
Organized in 1789, the second oldest congregation in Harrisonburg, the present church building
was constructed originally in 1907 – 1908 to the Gothic Revival design of Charles Bolton, architect of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Among the later alterations is a new porch on the front of the church which
has altered the position of several of the stained glass windows. The major windows date to 1908 and are
thus the earliest in Harrisonburg. All four of these windows have water – the sea, rivers or fountains –
symbolizing the idea of eternal life.
