Sabbath in May to be set apart as a college day, when appropriate services be held and a free will
offering in behalf of Lebanon Valley College be solicited. (5) That we approve of the action of the
officials of the College to raise $100,000 endowment fund as soon as possible, and will do what we can
to aid in raising the same, and securing students. (6) That we recognize Shenandoah Institute as holding
the first claim upon our efforts, and look to it as of the first importance to us in the educational work.
(7) That we feel the need of education among our young people, and will endeavor to secure their
attendance at the Institute. (8) That we recommend that the assessment for the Institute be increased.
(9) That on college day, the 2nd Sabbath in May, the Institute be represented, and a free-will offering be

The educational report was read and discussed by J. E. Hott, J. W. Howe, W. R. Berry, I. M.
Underwood, J. N. Fries, H. Jones, and G. P. Hott. The report was adopted.
Other Business (p. 10). G. P. Hott, J. W. Howe, and C. P. Dyche were elected trustees of
Shenandoah Institute.
Visiting Committee to Shenandoah Institute (p. 16). Your Committee to visit Shenandoah
Institute would report that it was present at the Commencement Exercises in June last, and witnessed the
examination which showed commendable zeal upon the part of the teachers, and satisfactory progress
upon that of the students. We were likewise pleased with the entire management of the School, and do
not hesitate, to recommend it to the confidence and support of the Conference. Respectfully subscribed,

Other Business (p. 12). J. E. Hott, M. J. Hinkle, and J. H. Fleming were reelected trustees of
Shenandoah Institute.
Report of the Committee on Education (p. 12). Believing as we do that a consecrated
Christian education is of incalculable value to the times and contributes largely to the glory of-God,
therefore we [endorse] it in the following: Resolved, (1) That we can heartily commend Union Biblical
Seminary, our theological school, to all who contemplate entering the gospel ministry. (2) That we
recommend the continuance of the assessment as last year. (3) That we [accept] the apportionment of
the $80 made to it by the Board of Education for the Beneficiary Educational Fund, and that we, as
ministers, will make a vigorous effort to secure the sums apportioned to our charges. (4) That we
sympathize with Lebanon Valley College in its endowment effort, and pray for its
success in the educational work. (5) That we deeply feel the need of an educational
center within our Conference, such as Shenandoah Institute affords. (6) That the
commendable work done in the past we heartily appreciate and will pray God that it
may continue. (7) That we will endeavor to induce young men and woman, within
and without the church on our charges, to enter the Institute at the earliest
opportunity. (8) That we observe the second Sunday in May as educational day, and
that we endeavor to enlist our people therein; the contributions of the day to be
applied to Shenandoah Institute or Lebanon Valley College, as the donors shall
