History, Part 2—Dayton U.B. Church.30 This history of a 98-year-old
landmark in the community of Dayton, Va., has been prepared as a contribution
to the celebration of the Bicentennial Year of our Country. Indeed, we feel we
have here a rich heritage. God’s chosen people throughout the ages have
erected places of worship wherein they could honor and draw closer to their
God. Many times this was accomplished under difficult circumstances and at
great individual sacrifice. Only those who have contributed in a personal way
towards making this Dayton Church what it is today can fully understand and
appreciate what it has meant and still means to this community. Sources of
30 “Centennial History of Dayton Chapel,” 1976, Compiled by Dorothy Finch Condry, Historian and Public Relations
Representative of the Harrisonburg Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; under the direction of the
Branch Presidency: Kelly Harman, President John Lee, 1st Counselor Robert C. Morris, 2nd Counselor.
