Will of David Coffman
note: This will was recorded in 1815.
In the name of God Amen. I, David Coffman of Rockingham County and State of Virginia, being afflicted in body but of a sound mind and disposing memory so make this my last will and testament in manner and form following
First of all I will and direct that all my just debts and funural expenses be paid out of my personal estates after my death.
Secondly I will and direct that my wife Sally Coffman shall have the plantation that I purchased of John Vance when Michael ?Correle? now lives during her life to live on or to rent it out for her own use and benefit also with the said place 4-9 acres of wood joining ?Michael? Beery Christian sites and others - also the old Sorrel mare one bed bedstead and bedding and one Cow and to have her choice of the bed and Cow also her own riding saddle and ? sheep of her Choice - also one Negro woman named Susan - the bed Cow mane mare saddle sheep and negro woman she is to have and her heirs forever. but the land to be after her death disposed of as hereafter mentioned.
Thirdly, I will and direct that my son Samuel Coffman in addition to what I have already given him all that tract of land which I now hold situate lying and being on Smith Creek in the county of Rockingham containing Three hundred and ten acres. this with the place I now live on which he has a deed for I give to him and his heirs forever, also that the said Samuel Coffman shall have Immediate popepion (possession) of the Tract I now live on after my death. Fourthly I will and direct that my daughter Barbar Taylor shall have all the land on the side of the Creek where she now lives on at this time. all the land on the other side of the creek where on John ?Bilhimer? now lives. that part I will to be sold David Robinson arrives at the age of twenty one years by my Executor hereafter mentioned and the mony arising from said land to be Equally divided among the four Eldest Children of my daughter Barbara - Viz Elizabeth Belhimer Hannah anna & David Robinson. but the portion which would fall to Elizabeth Belhimer to be so managed by my Executor that it Cannot be spent from his children but that the said Elizabeth shall have the use of it during her life and then to be Equally divided among her Children and the land on the side of the Creek where my daughter Barbara now lives to be sold after her death and divided among said Barbara's other four children Equally so that they shall be Equal with the first mentioned four children and the plantation that I have given to my wife Sally Coffman during her life and after her death I will and direct it to be sold and divided among all the Children of my daughter to ......

if she should have any more Children at the time that these lands is sold - if any of her Children should not be of age for there parts to be put to XXXX to the best advantage for them untill they shall Come of age.
Fifthly I will and direct that Lydia Tyrrell Daughter of my wife shall have a sorrell horse called Charle two Cows two Beds bedsteads and bedding also a dark bay mare that was purchased of Adam Shultz the Horse Cows beds & mare I give to her and her heirs forever and this is to be her full portion of all my Estate.
Sixthly I will and direct that all my moveable Estate to be sold and all my Just debts paid out of the money arising from the sale and the Balance I give to my son Samuel Coffman and his heirs forever.
Lastly I do hereby Constitute and appoint my son Samuel Coffman Executor of this my last will and Testament Revoking all other former and other wills and Testaments hereto for by me made declaring this and this only to be my last will and Testament in witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the thirteenth day of March One thousand Eight Hundred and fifteen.
