HOUSES

1. SUBJECT:
Burtner Home.

2. LOCATION:
Northeast end of town on the west side of Warm Springs and Harrisonburg Pike 42, Dayton, Virginia.

3. DATE:
Unknown.

4. OWNERS:
 Original 1784, Jacob Harrison.
 1878 was purchased by John Burtner.
 1900 was purchased by Irvin Koogler, the present day owner.

5. DESCRIPTION:
The interior is of old time design, with mantels and fireplaces. It is built of stone with hipped roof and was
remodeled about 1925 by the present owner.

6. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Stonewall Jackson is said to have stopped here. It was used as a stone fort during the War Between the States,
and earlier the white man used it for protection from the Indians.
