showing our love and care to the members of our congregation. The Asbury Care Ministry has been
growing! Many thanks to all of the people who are helping Asbury reach out to meet the needs of our
congregation. We have made meals, sent cards, provided transportation, and other services that have
helped Asbury members. Our Parish Nursing Team, led by Becky Weidig, has been conducting blood
pressure screenings, organizing visitation of members, and helping with information about medical
issues. Our team is always looking for more people to volunteer, especially to visit members and to
prepare an easy meal for members in need. We also need you to pass the word that our Care Ministry
Team is available if needed. You can call the church office or email WeCare@AsburyUMC.cc. We have
recently experienced some weather emergencies here in Harrisonburg. Power outages left many
members without power for almost a week. Several people have commented that they would have
helped out members of their Asbury family by offering rooms to stay in, refrigerator and freezer space, a
place to shower, checking on members who are confined to home, and in other ways. To help us be
prepared, should we have another emergency, Care Ministry is making a list of people who would like
to be contacted to help in a weather emergency. We also are trying to determine what would be the best
way to contact each other in case of an emergency.

Evangelism. Each of us has the Christian responsibility to bring others to the Lord. Each of us in
our daily walks and in our own way, with any and all that we may touch, has the responsibility of
evangelizing—of bringing our fellow man closer to the Kingdom of God. And, for each of us this is a
most doable task—an act of kindness, an invitation to join in fellowship, a prayer for others in need, or
acting in any number of opportunities for Christian witness. Community Programs. Asbury is involved
in the local community by actively supporting local programs such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Boy
Scouts meet on Monday nights at 7 pm in the Youth Center, and Girl Scouts meet on Tuesdays at 6 pm
in Room 202. Hope for Men. Calling all men. Join us at the Aroma Grill (Walmart Shopping Center)
each week on Thursday, for lunch and a short teaching from scripture by Pastor Bob. Arrive at noon or
shortly after, and be on your way before 1 pm. The cost of the meal is $8 per person which includes the
buffet, beverage, taxes and gratuity. Just Older Youth (JOY) is our senior adult; ages 55 and older are
invited to participate in events. JOY meets every second Thursday of the month at noon in Slaven Hall
for a catered luncheon by Thomas House Restaurant in Dayton and program. Social half-hour starts at
11:30 am. The cost is $8.00 per person (paid at the door) and includes lunch, program, and wonderful
fellowship. JOY takes at least three trips each year. Sign-up for luncheons and trips, along with more
information, are in the church parlor or call the church office. The Joy Group is organized by Seniors.
It is open to all members and friends of Asbury. Please join us for Christian growth, fellowship, and
activities, and bring a friend! Life Groups are small-group ministry, Biblically rooted and Wesleyan
inspired. They offer an opportunity to build deeper relationships, grow in discipleship, and live as
transformed followers of Jesus Christ. We hope that every member of our church will join his/her Life
Group that matches their age and schedule. Each group of 10-12 people meet weekly (at time and place
they choose) for about ninety minutes and will include time for worship, prayer, and Bible study,
sharing of joys and burdens, as well as fellowship and mentoring. Let’s grow in love and care for one
another together and be fruitful in our mission and ministry as we invite others to become part of a Life
Group so that they, too, might encounter Christ!
