4. February 1879 Reports (Annual Conference at Mechanicstown)
This is the first year in which presiding elder reports were included in the Minutes.
Potomac District (p. 9). The District comprises 8 circuits, 2 stations, and 2 missions. Salary,
$520.48; presents, $5. Have held 52 quarterly conferences, most of them myself. On account of
affliction in my family, held several by substitute. There have been quite a number of conversions upon
the district, as the reports of itinerants will show. All of the preachers, with one exception, labored
faithfully during the whole year. Bro. E. P. Funk served Potomac Mission 8 months, when for sufficient
reason to himself he resigned the Mission, which was supplied by Bro. William Wolf for the balance of
the year. The brethren in charge of works have generally been very active in visiting and preaching.
Some of the local preachers have been quite active in the work of preaching the Gospel. There was one
camp meeting held upon the district, on Bath Circuit [in Berkeley Springs], which resulted in
strengthening the Church and in the conversion of a number of persons. There was a District Institute
held by R. Cowden, General Sunday School Agent, which left a good impression upon all who attended.
It would have proved a greater success to the District if more of the preachers and people had attended.
For the blessings received from our Heavenly Father we are grateful, and pray that He may continue
with all His people and bless them continually with His grace and favor. Respectfully submitted, W. O.

year’s labor, I feel that I am brought under many renewed obligations to our common Father for his
loving kindness and tender mercy manifested towards me during the year. It is true I have been called
