for Christ’s sake. Assessment for Presiding Elder’s Salary, $674; Deficit, $33.46; Amount received,
$640.54. J. D. Donovan, P.E.

Shenandoah District. Dear brethren: Gratefully remembering the kindness of the Church and
the goodness of my Heavenly Father, I make this report of the year’s work. The charges have been
served as arranged by the Conference one year ago, except that Rev. A. P. Walton resigned Roanoke
Second church, June 1, 1901. A temporary supply was made by Rev. J. R. Ridenour for a few weeks.
Then Rev. W. S. Baker was appointed and took charge of the work July 25th, but resigned and left
September 1st. Rev. S. E. Boyd was then appointed and has served the Church acceptably since. Rev.
B. N. Stevens resigned Linville circuit, October 3, 1901, since which time there has been no regular
supply. All have toiled faithfully and with fair results. There have been 75 quarterlies held, some by the
aid of brethren.

The new church on Churchville circuit, Mountain View, completed at a cost of about $850, was
dedicated August 4, 1901. The new house of worship at Crabbottom completed at a cost of about
$1,000, was not dedicated on account of rain on the day set for dedication. The Second Church House
of Roanoke is completed at a cost of over $3,000, but dedication services have been delayed. The work
on churches at Mt. Zion, Rockbridge charge; Salem, Elkton circuit; and at a new point on Shenandoah
City charge is progressing. A site has been purchased at an eligible point in Elkton for a new house of
worship. Repairs have been made on a number of church properties amounting to several hundred
dollars. Too little has been done to secure parsonages where there are none, yet on some several charges
some work is going on.

The young peoples’ work remains as about last year—some special interest is shown. Rev.
W. D. Good is recommended by the quarterly conference, of Dayton, Va., to the Annual Conference for
membership. E. E. Neff and J. L. Argenbright were granted quarterly conference license to preach the
gospel. Rev. S. E. Boyd, Roanoke, Va., comes on his credentials from the M.E. Church South for
membership. Shenandoah Institute is enjoying on excellent year. The Howe Memorial Building,
erected at a cost of about $7,000, is a great addition to the School. Dedicatory exercises will be held
March 18th. Reports will be made by the Principal, Financial Agents, and Executive Committee. There
came to me, personally, a great bereavement in the departure of my brother. Bishop J. W. Hott, whose
name is called now for the last time. But with the bereavement came a full measure of the grace of God
to sustain. My entire time has been given to the district. Often I desired to render fuller service, but felt
that the amount done was the full measure of my strength. Salary received, $604.82; one-half parsonage
rent, $25; total, $629.82. Your Servant, George P. Hott, P.E.

Boundaries. We, your Committee on Boundaries, beg leave to report as follows:

1. That there be two Presiding Elder districts.

2. That these districts remain as last year.

3. That Shendun and Belvadere be detached from Augusta circuit to form basis of a new
charge to be called Basic City circuit.

4. That Camp Hill be detached from Capon circuit to form nucleus of a new charge.

5. That a mission be established in Cumberland City.

6. That an assessment be made for this new field of labor: $20 for Presiding Elder and $1 for
each of other Conference assessments.
