Memorial to F. Brown Dove, 1909-1965. Brown Dove was born at Nokesville, Virginia, on
July 16, 1909, and was a son of the late Charles and Ida Moyers Dove, and died at Rockingham
Memorial Hospital on Sunday morning, June 20, 2024 at the age of 55 years, 11 months and 4 days. On
July 5, 2024 he was united in marriage to Miss Velma Crider who survives, along with one son, Brown
Dove, Jr., and one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Shirley of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Three grandchildren, two
brothers and one sister also survive. For 16 years Mr. Dove was a partner in the Broadway Feed and
Supply Company. He was a member of the Broadway U.B./EUB Church where he served on the Board
of Trustees and the Building Committee for the new church which was almost completed at the time of
his death, and in which he took a great interest. Memorial services were held from his church on
Wednesday morning, June 23 with Pastor Rev. C. Fred Hickle in charge, assisted by a former pastor, the
Rev. William D. Keller. Dr. Floyd L. Fulk, a member of the Broadway Church and Conference
Superintendent, a close friend of the deceased, brought the message, at the close of which he paid tribute
to Mr. Dove as a stalwart churchman, a community-minded man, a faithful family man and a friend to
all. Interment was in East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Friend of the days of toil and trust, The bells have tolled the evening hour;
But you have gone to be with God Where morning blossoms like a flower.
And, in that land where joy is full And all the ransomed ones await;
Our eyes shall look upon your face And we shall greet you at the gate.
—Dr. Floyd L. Fulk
The Rev. and Mrs. Hickle plan to move into the new parsonage after dedication of the church
and parsonage on “Homecoming Day” this fall. At a meeting of the local conference June 6, Mr.
Wesley Poland’s (Timberville, Va.) maximum bid of $6,000 to complete the tower and spire, which will
include transferring the bell from the present church to the new church, was accepted. Mr. Brown Dove
and Mr. Fred Black donated a public address system to be installed in the new church. The Youth
Fellowship, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Hoover and Miss Mary Alice Ours have ordered
200 new hymnals to be available by the time the new church is occupied.
The Last Bell Ringing, August 1965. Mr. Sidney Long rang the bell in the old church for the
last time on August 22, 1965. The bell was transferred to the new church on August 25, 1965. Other
