The Cornerstone Laying Service for the new church was held on May 2, 1965, with the Rev.
Hickle and Dr. Floyd L. Fulk in charge. Mr. Craig Newman and Beverley Biller represented Newman
Building and Material Corporation, the general contractors, and Mr. Raymond C. Smith, the architect
and construction consultant. The Cornerstone was donated by Mr. C. W. Grandle. A copy of the
“History of Broadway EUB Church” will be placed in back of this cornerstone.
On May 9th (Mother’s Day), altar vases were presented to the church by Circle 2 and dedicated
to all departed mothers. Daily Vacation Bible School was held June 7th through 11th, 1965, under the
direction of Mrs. John Long with 56 in attendance. An offering of $65.05 from the Bible
School was sent to the Rev. Leader for his “Special Projects” in Africa, roofs for prayer
huts. One of our senior members, beloved “Miss Maude” Good (pictured at the right),
has made a contribution for the new pulpit furniture in the new church.
New Parsonage. Plans for the new parsonage were given to a number of
contractors in the area. The bid of $19,058.00 from Lantz Homes, Inc., Broadway, was accepted by the
Board of Trustees. Construction was to be started not later than July 1, 1965, and being completed by
November 1. Negotiations were to be made with the contractor to lower this cost figure.
