Stained Glass Windows in the Churches of Harrisonburg
Harrisonburg Mennonite Church
1552 South High Street.
This congregation was organized as the Harrisonburg Mennonite Mission in an unused restaurant
in 1936 at Gay and Federal Streets. They purchased a United Brethren church on the corner of Chicago
Avenue and Green Street in late 1936. This became the Chicago Avenue Mennonite Church. The
building was expanded several times over a period of years. They started several other Mennonite
churches including the Ridgeview Mennonite Church on “Red Hill’. In 1972 the new church was
completed on South High Street and named the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.
