  4. DESCRIPTION:

    5. This cemetery is in two sections, the "Old" and the "New". All is kept in fine condition.

  5. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:

No special history except some very early graves, 1700’s, and some of the Harrison family buried here, but only one stand stone (red) marker in the Harrison lot. This family were very early settlers in or near Dayton, Virginia, having lived here prior to and during the revolutionary War.

  1. Dianna Kieffer, born April 8, 1813, died August 4, 1834, age 21 years, 5 months, 6 days.

    2. This is the only early grave in the New Cemetery, and is supposed to have been moved from some other burying place.

  2. Rev. Henry Burtner, born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, May 6, 1800, and died at Dayton, January 7, 1857.
  3. Nicholas Paul, died in 1817, aged 88 years.
  4. Catharine Paul, died June 11, 1836, age 99 years.
  5. John Paul, died December 25, 1833, age 34 years.
  6. Samuel Paul, born January 5, 1804, died April 2, 1857.
  7. Elizabeth A., wife of Samuel Paul, died February 6, 1835, age 74yars, 4 month, 1 day.
  8. Lydia Ann, daughter of J.H. and F.R. McLeod, born August 22, 1833, died September 22, 1860.
  9. Gabriel Payne, born October 18, 1775, died July 5, 1858, age 82 years, 8 months, 17 days.

  10. John Rice, son of William and Milly Rice, born February 22, 1809, died June 11, 1848, age 39 years, 3 months, 13 days.
  11. Mary Jane, wife of Augustus Rice, born June 18, 1817, and died July 12, 1847, age 30 years, 5 months, 24 days.
  12. In Memory of Ella Rice, daughter of William and E.L. Rice, died August 11, 1857, age 1 year, 1 month, 25 days.
  13. Margaret Setington Rice, wife of William Rice, born November 29, 1819, died, March 9, 1844.
  14. Jane Amelia, daughter of Augustus and Mary E. Rice, born July 29, 1839, and died January 26, 1844.
  15. Thomas James, son of William and M.S. Rice, born June 26, 1842, died November 30, 1847.
  16. James Rice, son of William and Milley Rice, born October 16, 1816, died June 3rd. 1857, age 20 years, 7 months, 9 day.
  17. William Rice, born July 27, 1779, died August 2, 1838, age 50 years, 6 days.
