The Lutheran (now Brethren) Church.
East side of Main Street, Dayton, VA.
Prior to 1840.
The original owners were the Lutheran and Methodist Congregations. The present owners are the Brethren Congregation.
The original wooden building was very crude in every way. It has been replaced by a plain, but substantial brick building. There are double front doors and large plain, stained glass windows.
My information is that the two congregations, Lutheran and Methodist, were continually in a fight, and finally, after much litigation, sold out to the present owners, the Brethren Church, and peace and quiet returned.
