  2. The Lutheran (now Brethren) Church.

  4. East side of Main Street, Dayton, VA.

  5. DATE:
  6. Prior to 1840.

  7. OWNERS:
  8. The original owners were the Lutheran and Methodist Congregations. The present owners are the Brethren Congregation.

  9. DESCRIPTION:
  10. The original wooden building was very crude in every way. It has been replaced by a plain, but substantial brick building. There are double front doors and large plain, stained glass windows.

  11. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
  12. My information is that the two congregations, Lutheran and Methodist, were continually in a fight, and finally, after much litigation, sold out to the present owners, the Brethren Church, and peace and quiet returned.
