"Bill" Dinkle Home.
Bridgewater, East End (or bend) in Bank Street.
About 1825 to 1830.
"Bill" Dinkle, one of the first settlers here, built this very substantial brick house. It was sold to one Allen Brown prior to 1861. The widow, Mrs. Allen Brown, lived here many years, but the house was finally sold through court proceedings to J.H. Wynant, and sold again through court about 1830, to the present owner, Joe Miller.
See form #3686, attached.
This is one of the few houses left intact here after the War. It was in the skirmish line during several clashes. During one skirmish on this farm five or six Yankees were killed and hurriedly buried in the barnyard litter, but later removed to another burying ground.
