Wallcoverings
at Belle Grove changed with times, and peeling them away is like turning back
time. A subtly colored rose pattern is dated 1860 on the selvedge. Trailing
Arbutus (pattern shown at left) was found beneath it, with at least one layer
of paint under that. The color of this covering - over one hundred sixty years
old - is still rich.
selvedge - edge of wallpaper where Manufacturer information is printed.
