Harrisonburg Rockingham Historical Society

Located within easy driving distance to the Folk Art and Heritage Center are several repositories for local records and documents.

Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia maintains a wealth of primary sources for researchers. Within its Sadie A. Hartzler Library is the Menno Simons Historical Library, which focuses on the primary purpose of collecting, preserving and making available for study and research the recorded history, doctrines, life, and arts of Anabaptist and Mennonite groups. The Library also collects materials on Shenandoah Valley history, culture and genealogy. The Archives contain the official papers of Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia Mennonite Conference and the manuscripts and personal papers of some local persons, most of them Mennonite.

James Madison University's Carrier Library maintains a Special Collections Library that houses a collection of rare books and documents with historical relevance to the Shenandoah Valley.

Massanutten Regional Library (formerly Rockingham Public Library) will reopen its genealogy resource area in the Spring of 2001, when renovation on the old section of the library is complete. Find the library web site at http://www.mrlib.org/.
