Vignettes from the Mary Spitzer Etter Collection

Opening February 22, 2025

Vignettes from the Mary Spitzer Etter Collection, featuring a tapestry of Valley items owned by generations of one local family, will be on display at the Shenandoah Valley Folk Art and Heritage Center beginning Friday, February 22. The exhibit is made possible by a generous loan of items by Mary Etter, a long time Harrisonburg resident. She shares the history of each object, from mid-nineteenth century furniture handmade by family members to novelties and necessities that were carried at P.F. Spitzer, her father’s early 20th century Court Square store.

Note: Mary Spitzer Etter passed away March 15, 2002. Her obituary can be found at the Daily News Record Online at this location: http://www.dnronline.com/archives/3-16-2002/. Click on obituaries from the menu at left. The HRHS was honored to have her present at the exhibit opening in February.
