What is Folk Art?

October 12 and 19, 2002 (Saturdays)
10:00 am to Noon

On the first meeting of this class, children will tour the museum looking for folkart. Special speakers will help them in their research. On the second meeting, children will make their own folk art projects. They can choose to make their own pottery, quilt, basket or fraktur.

Learning about History from People Who Have Lived It
An Oral History Project

November 9 and 16, 2002 (Saturdays)
10:00 am to Noon

This program will teach children how to capture their families' stories by learning to use procedures outline in the Southern Oral History Program Guidebook. Children should attend each November program in order to create a successful oral history project.

Space is limited to 25 children for each of these programs. Please call the museum at (540) 879-2616 to reserve a space. There is no charge for the November program but there is a $2.00 charge for materials for the October program. All programs will begin in the Heritage Center's lecture hall.
